Rutherford Energy Supply Limited (trading as Uttily Energy) has ceased to trade. Ofgem, the energy regulator, has appointed Total Gas and Power as the new supplier for its customers.

Total Gas and Power will supply energy to Rutherford Energy’s customers as of Saturday 19 October 2019.

Total Gas and Power will contact customers over the coming days and again in a few weeks when the transfer has been completed and their accounts have been fully set up.
Customers need not worry, their supplies are secure and open account credit balances will be honoured, up to a total £100,000.

Current and former customers who are in debit to Rutherford Energy should wait to hear from Total Gas and Power, or Rutherford Energy’s administrators, who will talk to them about repayment arrangements.

Ofgem’s advice to Rutherford Energy’s customers is not to switch, but to sit tight and wait until Total Gas and Power has been in touch. This will help make sure that the process of handing customers over to Total Gas and Power is as hassle free for customers as possible.

The parent company, Uttily plc, will also cease to trade. Uttily plc does not directly supply energy to customers, but it has commercial arrangements in place with a number of partner suppliers where around 360 customers are supplied under the Uttily plc brand.

Most Uttily plc customers will continue to be supplied by the relevant partner supplier, therefore, Ofgem will not appoint a new supplier for these customers.
